Last Thursday, May 19, 2022, the Sala Polvorín at the Parador de Tortosa was splendidly prepared to host the Dr. Ferran Grants 2022 award ceremony, an event that stood out for its significance in the field of biomedical research. Presided over by Ms. Meritxell Roigé, mayor of the Tortosa City Council, the event also featured Mr. Joan Nin, director of the Territorial Health Services of Terres de l'Ebre, and Mr. Ramon Bosch, outgoing president of the Dr. Ferran Foundation.
During a preliminary session, the results of five projects funded in the 2019 and 2020 calls were presented, demonstrating the significant impact and advancements achieved in various areas of medicine and research.
The highlight of the event was the keynote lecture by Dr. María Jesús Pla Farnós, clinical head of the Gynecology Service at Bellvitge University Hospital and coordinator of the Breast Functional Unit at HUB and the Catalan Institute of Oncology. Her talk, titled "The Path of Breast Cancer Surgery: Towards Precision Surgical Treatment with Oncological Value", offered a deep and hopeful insight into the advances in surgical treatment for breast cancer.
Following the speeches by the members of the panel, awards were given to the projects funded in the 2022 call of the Dr. Ferran Foundation. A special moment was the awarding of the second-best project grant, a 1500 € runner-up prize sponsored by Química Clínica Aplicada, S.A., to the project "Ordering Heart Failure. Implementation of Lung Ultrasound in the Follow-up of Heart Failure Patients from Primary Care. IC-REPTE Study". This study, led by Rosa Caballol Angelats from the SensiTEbre research group, focuses on optimizing the follow-up of heart failure patients using lung ultrasound, representing a significant advance in primary care.
This event not only recognizes the hard work and dedication of the researchers but also underscores the importance of ongoing support for biomedical research that can directly impact the improvement of medical practices and patient care.
The Dr. Ferran Foundation, along with Química Clínica Aplicada, S.A., is proud to support and celebrate the efforts of these visionaries, whose work not only benefits the local community but also contributes to the global body of medical knowledge.
