The Dr. Ferran Biomedical Research Foundation, a non-profit organization deeply rooted in the Terres de l’Ebre, remains committed to advancing biomedicine by supporting notable projects and research groups. Annually, the foundation calls for grant applications and organizes a special ceremony to award these grants to the most outstanding biomedical research projects.
This year, the Dr. Ferran runner-up scholarship for an emerging group, endowed with 1500€ and sponsored by Química Clínica Aplicada S.A., was awarded to the project "Experiences of Newly Joined Professionals at the Intensive Care Unit of Tortosa Verge de la Cinta Hospital During the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Dual Perspective". This crucial study focuses on the experiences of staff newly integrated into the Intensive Care Unit during one of the most critical times of the pandemic, providing valuable insights into the challenges and learnings in extraordinary times.
The principal investigator, Silvia Reverté Villaroya, from the Intensive Medicine Research Group at the Verge de la Cinta Hospital in Tortosa, along with her collaborators Ruth Tortosa Alted and Marta Berenguer Poblet, has made considerable efforts to understand and document these experiences. Their work significantly contributes to a better understanding of how to manage crisis situations in intensive medical environments.
The scholarship award ceremony, conducted by Lluís Ferré and Gerard Vergés, managers of QCA, took place on Monday, May 10, 2021. This event not only recognizes the dedication and hard work of these researchers but also highlights the importance of ongoing support for biomedical research, which can directly impact the improvement of medical practices and patient care.
The Dr. Ferran Foundation states: "We are proud to facilitate these important works and look forward to continuing our mission to foster biomedical research in our region and beyond. Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients this year and our thanks to everyone who supports and makes our work possible".
