PRINCIPLE

In patients suff ering from infection of Treponema pallidum are detected plasma reagins, antibodies capable of reacting with the nontreponemal antigen VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory). RPR Carbon antigen is a modifi cation of the VDRL antigen in which are included carbon particles, specially treated in order to facilitate the visualization of agglutination.

DIAGNOSTIC USE

The RPR Carbon test for serum or plasma allows the evaluation of the presence of plasma reagins, providing information about the possible presence and extent of T. pallidum infection. As a screening test, the result should always be confi rmed by specific tests. Single test result could not be used to make a clinical diagnosis. It should integrate clinical and laboratory data.
